V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!

V-I-C-T-O-R-Y Victory is our cry!

The seventh grade team’s journey to victory was met with speed bumps along the way. We began the tournament on Saturday with one win and one loss. Our loss was to the Michigan Madness team. It was a heart wrenching loss with calls that didn’t go our way.

Our team returned on Sunday, the final day of the tournament with a renewed spirit and determination in their eyes. The first game was won in double overtime. The NBA championship couldn’t hold a candle to us. We drove the ball down court, sank free throws, blocked shots and played a tough defense.

We advanced to game two with a win of 42-32 over FIST. Our players were so HOT that if you touched them you would get a third degree burn. We have gone head to head with FIST in past tournaments, but did not win. This time we pulled out all the stops. It was a well deserved win.

Fast forward to the final game of the tournament…The Championship. We were once again head to head and toe to toe with the team that crushed us on the first day of the tournament, Michigan Madness. The boys are in place for the tip off. They win the tip and take off down the court. No score yet. They score, we score. Michigan Madness eventually pulls ahead by a few points. We come back and tie the game.

We are still in the game and the boys continue to play at their peak. We sink the ball 1, 2 more times. In the last minute of the game we are up by two points. We must hold the lead…and that we did. You could feel the tension in the air.

The gym was like a sauna, the boys were sweating, the crowd was roaring and the clock was ticking slowly. Five seconds left and Michigan Madness had the ball. They attempted to drive to the basket, but our defense stopped them. They went for a final shot, two seconds left on the clock, “tick tock” too late.

The Program fans were on their feet, hands pumping in the air, kids jumping from the bleachers, and parents running onto the floor. Screams that could not be tamed echoed throughout the small gymnasium. Victory, victory, how sweet the sound. Awesome win.

Let’s keep all of our squads uplifted and encouraged as we continue our season.
